Kerry Darlington's New Peter Pan

It's always a pleasure to watch an artist at work: particularly when you must motor through beautiful Welsh scenery in the springtime to do so. And particularly if the artist in question is the incomparable Kerry Darlington hard at work on one of her most cherished subjects: Peter Pan!

Kerry's deep attachment to J. M. Barrie's beloved play and novel plays into her personal iconography of escape, fantasy, inner worlds and childhood freedom. Chatting with Kerry as she works is to explore these rich themes wound into the work, much as her practical technique layers paint, resin and pigments to build up a multilayered piece.

When filming Kerry for the video, her thoughts and insights come to her in a wonderful stream-of-conciousness. It's a pity to have to edit her insights together for the restrictions of video! I think we've captured that Darlington charisma though - and some of the process behind the painting as it happens.
