The Story of The Fairytale

The Story of The Fairytale

With preparatory intentions of being an educating tale about a child with misbehaving habits, soon became a household name and bedtime-story. Like her approach to every piece within the Folklore Collection, Darlington's Goldilocks and the Three Bears embraces the moral reasoning of the story as it is strung between self preservation and social rule breaking. As such, the nature of a virtuous, story-line begins with a problem, strung from naive decision-making but with an ending that looks to send a clear message to the reader - Goldilocks and The Three Bears looks to replicate the moral-reasoning of good behaviour in this example.

The Making of Goldilocks and The Three Bears

Details

Kerry's second snippet of Goldilocks truly starts to bring the story together. She has long had a strong affiliation with the details that build up her mythical-styled pieces, and since the standards have been raised during the progression of the Folklore Collection, her connection with the intricately-made elements have only gotten stronger. As a result, the longevity of this piece from the brainstorming phase to practicalities, like elements-production, has been met with a conscientious mindset throughout. All in all, her heart and soul has been poured in to the entirety of this project, with every detail of this piece a clear example of the hard work ingrained and the renowned story she is trying to communicate, as seen by her sketches.

The Technique

Where the magic happens. Kerry's auspicious studio has been the birth place of her most recent Folklore addition, Goldilocks and the Three Bears. As Kerry starts with a primed wooden board cut to the large size of the piece, she then proceeds to paint the main characters from the story-line, showcasing the moral reasoning behind the classical story and then paint in some background colour. Kerry note's that there is always a plan to this background layer and it is the most critical time of the painting simply because she needs to have a good idea of which colours will be applied upon the next layer, and the 3D elements (to replicate the original) that follows.

Making it's Debut

Kerry Darlington's recent 'By the Light of the Moon' Event also showcased Goldilocks and the Three Bears original, which was still underway at the time. The lucky clients were able to get a snippet of the most recent edition of the acclaimed, Folklore Collection, where her interpretation of the classical story was laid bare in every detail of the portrait. Stunning gold leaf details were also introduced at the same time of the show, so watchers were able to gaze upon the artistic outcome of this special technique.
