Keeper of Dreams - Kerry Darlington

THE HIGHLY ANTICIPATED NEW RELEASE

The new Panda edition, 'Keeper of Dreams' is the sensational next chapter in Kerry Darlington's Classic Folklore Collection. A circular portrait featuring a brunette heroine embracing a panda bear; surrounded by pink, purple and blue butterflies, peonies and bows laced throughout her hair.

DREAMING OF PEACE

'Keeper of Dreams' is the next instalment in the Classic Folklore series, following up to Kerry Darlington's fastest ever selling edition 'Sleeping Beauty', which sold out before it was fully unveiled. Also a circular edition format, the composition will make the perfect accompaniment for those who have collected within the series to date. Slightly larger than 'Sleeping Beauty' the piece measures 25 x 25 inches (63.5 x 63.5 cm), and features a deep edge meaning that itdoesn’t require a frame to display.

Each unique edition will also come with a large 11cm (4.25") charm depicting a sleeping fairy on a pink and blue crescent moon. Each charm will be signed by Kerry, making them precious pieces of her artwork by themselves.

Wyecliffe Galleries have been the home of Kerry Darlington for over a decade and proudly offers the widest choice of edition number, alongside complimentary premium delivery via courier to the UK mainland and flexible payment options.

“No more words. In the name of this place we drink in with our breathing, stay quiet like a flower. So the nightbirds will start singing.”

- Rumi

Nestled within the panda’s fur, Kerry Darlington’s muse is softly sleeping. Perhaps dreaming of the butterflies that surround her, thesebeautiful, winged creatures are said to represent spiritual growth and times of transformation.

A tale imagined by Kerry Darlington herself, the artwork pays homage to the artists favourite animal, the panda. Infused with the spiritual fortunes of peace and luck, Darlington references her belief of harmony in nature and the ideology of ‘yin and yang’ for which pandas are said to represent.

Though Keeper of Dream’s isn’t necessarily inspired by one particular story, the work is infused with Kerry’s incredible ability to weave a narrative throughout her portfolio, making subtle references to previous compositions, inspired by both literature and spirituality alike.

A PERSONAL MUSE & RECURRING THEMES

The references to Eastern culture and philosophy also features in other beautiful works from the artist; Paper Boat, Wish Upon a Paper Butterfly and One Thousand Paper Cranes each explore the culture and folklore surrounding the practice of folding paper which is native to Japan.

Likewise previous portrait Sakura is inspired by Japanese Cherry Blossom, and The Dragon of Hidden Treasures and Dragon of the Underworld are inspired by Chinese stories featuring dragons Fuzanglong and Kur.

"I must endure the presence of a few caterpillars if I wish to become acquainted with the butterflies"

- Antoine de Saint-Exupery

The muse for this piece was Kerry's beautiful daughter Elle, who has inspired several compositions to date. The artist has captured her daughter growing up through her paintings 'Romeo and Juliet', and 'East of the Sun West of the Moon'.
