THE DRAGONS - A MATCHING PAIR
Meet The Dragon of the Underworld and The Dragon of Hidden Treasures.
Taking a closer look at the mythical creatures at the very heart of the story so far, Darlington following up with a compact pairing of charismatic dragons. A towering figure in legend and folklore alike, they are a powerful symbol of independence and fiery and noble as their appearance.
“No, I would not want to live in a world without dragons, as I would not want to live in a world without magic, for that is a world without mystery, and that is a world without faith.”
- R.A. Salvatore
Named 'Kur', he is an underworld deity, living in the empty space between the primal sea and the earth's crust and can be heard roaring during earthquakes. With a rich history to draw from; Kerry Darlington's new series has all the hallmarks of a legendary collection.
Named 'Fuzanglong' he is the Chinese dragon of hidden treasures. An underworld dragon who guards buried treasures, both natural and man-made. Volcanoes are said to form when this dragon bursts out of the ground to report to heaven.
Soaring above London, four dragons in bejewelled colours of purple, emerald, and indigo blue carry children atop their backs. Whilst part of a modern zeitgeist reminiscent of the use of fire-breathers in Harry Potter and A Song of Ice and Fire, the artist admits her Welsh roots might have subliminally influenced their appearance in The Worlds Collide.
“I did paint dragons often in primary school actually! My favourite Illustrators painted dragons and they also appear in other fantasy series' that I have loved; such as Tolkien's works and Eragon by Christopher Paolini.”

THE SEQUEL - A LABOUR OF LOVE
Flight of the Dragons was the much anticipated follow up work, featuring the return of the breakout characters from its predecessor Worlds Collide. Continuing the crusade, young witches, wizards and magical folk fly high above an enchanted castle. Travelling by land, air and sea, devout collectors may recognise a charming reference to Darlington’s early work The Pirate Ship, as well as references to her steampunk inspired Eccentric Machine series.
Deeply inspired by the world of witching and wizardry, Darlington often listens to audiobooks whilst painting, revealing that the Harry Potter series has been a much loved source of inspiration.
“The idea for this series happened as I was listening to a particular chapter in ‘The Deathly Hallows’. There was a mention of reinforcements appearing by air and by ground as the final battle took place in the castle.”
