A Visit to See Alex Echo in the Studio!

The Wyecliffe team have just returned from a hugely exciting trip to see Alex Echoat his spectacular studio in Surrey.

Proudly identifying himself as the ‘most successful unknown artist in the world’. Alex has of course achieved an enormously successful career spanning 35 years: creating his radiant, intricate abstract works for enthusiasts such as Sir Eric Clapton, Robert Downey Jnr and even the Absolut Vodka company!

For the last ten years, Alex has lived and worked in the UK: founding this fantastic studio – part robust working space (complete with in-house resining and finishing facilities); part bright sleek showroom. A voluminous space to showcase his trademark techniques of dazzling colour, meticulous detail and exacting finishes. Unlike the traditional idea of an artist’s studio (a chaos of materials, media and mess!) Echo’s studio is a harmoniously ordered, almost minimalist space. A zen-like environment for his work ethic.

Alex’s style lends itself to large scale canvases of board and aluminium – huge squares and circles or unconventional shapes such as human silhouettes or a fantastic riff on René Magritte’s ‘The Treachery of Images’ in the shape of a giant pipe! His smaller-scale pieces also work brilliantly:  tiny canvasses that sit beautifully on their own or arranged in a grid-pattern to create an intricate collage. Over the years, Echo has applied his technique to all manner of other objects such as Eric Clapton’s guitar and shirts for fashion designer Paul Smith!
