Louise Dear - Pursuing Pleasure
Louise Dear’s Pursuing Pleasure is an extraordinary new collection that celebrates art, life, and the pursuit of joy. Painted in her French village of Peyriac de Mer, each work is infused with the rhythm of her life there; family, friends, long summer evenings, wine, and the bliss of painting. It is a body of work alive with joie de vivre, where art and life are inseparable.
Throughout the collection, Dear introduces a series of female muses, each entwined with a floral counterpart that reflects the spirit of the piece. Nasturtiums blaze in Rhythm Divine, Michaelmas-daisies uplift Love Drunk, and peonies dance through There Are No Rules (Pursuing Pleasure). Together, these muses celebrate freedom, femininity, renewal, and the sensual delight of creating without constraint. A fourth original, Swing from the Chandelier, completes the series in dazzling form.
Symbolism runs deep, from butterflies of rebirth to hidden kingfishers, from crystals and pearls to the balance of yin and yang. Each painting tells Louise’s personal narrative: her move from Brighton to France, her enduring romance, her mother’s wisdom, and her refusal to follow convention.
The artworks then made their own journey, personally collected by our Director Ben and Creative Director Katia, from Louise’s sunlit studio in Peyriac de Mer, carefully selected for this release, to their new life exclusively at Wyecliffe Galleries. This path underscores the close relationship between artist, gallery, and collector, connecting each work’s creation with the joy of its discovery.
The Pursuing Pleasure editions also mark a milestone moment: these are the first limited editions Louise Dear has released in over three years. Each title is strictly capped at 25 worldwide, hand-signed and numbered by the artist herself, making this collection one of the most exclusive and significant of her career.
