Last month we were lucky enough to visit Kerry Darlington at her North Wales studio and see her new original 'Peter Pan in Neverland' being painted before our eyes! Now we've returned for another visit and are extremely excited to report that the original is now complete. What's more - Kerry's hard at work on a set of Unique Editions and we were invited to video her at work on these brilliant pieces to see the creative process in action!
One of Kerry's personal mottos is 'I paint all that I can't see and a little of what I can'. This philosophy is very much encapsulated in 'Peter Pan in Neverland', being a fantastical realm - a place of imagination, dreams, fantasies and adventure. A rich inner world made manifest and - in Kerry's imagination - a secret refuge from the 'outer world'. This theme compliments J.M. Barrie's own description of Neverland perfectly and establishes it as a premier place for adventure and discovery....
"Of all the delectable islands the Neverland is the snuggest and most compact, not large and sprawly, you know, with tedious distances between one adventure and another, but nicely crammed"
-J.M. Barrie, Peter Pan
It's a description brilliantly conveyed in Kerry's vibrant original - teeming with beloved characters, abundant wildlife and exotic locations. This is echoed the Unique Editions which in themselves are physically full of tiny discoveries and exclusive treasures...
Like all Kerry's Unique Edition series, each piece is hand embellished with metal leaf, paint, pigment, resin and special 3D objects. Each embellishment is performed by hand and never in the same way twice: creating a distinct work of art in every Unique Edition.
