Kerry Darlington revisits one of literature’s most enduring love stories in her exquisite diptych 'Romeo and Juliet'. Inspired by William Shakespeare’s timeless tragedy, these portraits explore the intimate side of the star-crossed lovers, not in their moment of fate, but in a quiet reverie suspended between love and eternity.

Painted in Kerry’s signature warm sepia palette, the pair glows with the soft radiance of hand-applied gold leaf. Each face, serene and dreamlike, is surrounded by roses and butterflies, symbols of beauty, fragility and transformation. The composition invites the viewer to contemplate both the fleeting nature of love and its power to transcend mortality.

While Kerry’s earlier large-scale depiction of 'Romeo and Juliet' was rich with dramatic colour and theatre, this new interpretation is far more personal, intimate cameo portraits that whisper rather than declare. Through delicate tone, refined texture and subtle luminosity, Darlington evokes the story’s emotional essence: love that burns so bright it becomes immortal.
