Beneath the shimmering spectacle of the Aurora Borealis, Kerry Darlington brings to life one of fantasy literature's most unforgettable adventures in The Northern Lights, an original painting inspired by Philip Pullman's acclaimed trilogy, His Dark Materials.

At the heart of the composition is Lyra Belacqua, the fearless young heroine whose journey across the frozen North introduces her to a world of extraordinary creatures, impossible discoveries and unlikely allies. Her copper-red hair dances against the Arctic breeze as she gazes towards the heavens, while her faithful dæmon Pantalaimon nestles into the warmth of her fur-lined coat. Towering protectively behind them is Iorek Byrnison, the magnificent armoured bear whose formidable strength conceals a profound capacity for loyalty and friendship.

It is Iorek who bestows upon Lyra the name Silvertongue, recognising her remarkable gift for storytelling and persuasion. Their bond, founded upon mutual respect rather than fear, becomes one of the most moving relationships in Pullman's celebrated novels.

Darlington's intricate brushwork captures the delicate textures of Iorek's fur, the ornate patterns of his armour and the remarkable expression of wonder upon Lyra's face. Around them, the Northern Lights unfurl in a breathtaking cascade of sapphire blue, violet, rose and molten orange. Delicate applications of gold leaf introduce a celestial radiance, catching the light amongst the swirling colours and lending the original painting a precious, almost otherworldly quality.

Our meticulous 12-point checklist ensures every work upholds our exacting quality standards when dispatching one of our artworks.

Starting at dispatch from the artist's studio, we've worked together with our community of artists to ensure delivery to the gallery is as meticulous as possible - each work packaged safe transit.

Upon arrival in our Weybridge showroom, each new arrival is examined by the studio & dispatch team. Frames are scrutinised for a perfect finish: glass is polished to perfection with anti-static art cloths. Auxiliary features like the string/wire and certification on the reverse are checked for positioning and correct mounting. Finally, the work itself is inspected to ensure a flawless transition from studio to gallery. Upon purchase, the work is cleaned again and meticulously subjected to our trademark 12-point checking system to ensure a safe secure journey to its ultimate destination.
