Watching an artist at work is always an illuminating experience - observing the selection of media and the techniques unique to them: sometimes visceral (Harriet Hoult's reclaimed textures), sometimes energetic (Robin Eckardt's high-impact dashing around large scale canvases), some employing zenlike discipline (the beautifully minimal working conditions of Alex Echo) and at times almost metaphysical - such as Kerry Darlington's preparatory sketches among the ethereal, evocative Welsh landscape...
