Angel Cake - Stencil - Edition

Lhouette returns to one of the defining techniques of his early practice with a new series of Angel Cake stencil editions, each created by hand in the studio.

Rather than simply reproducing his iconic silhouette, every edition is individually hand-stencilled, bringing subtle variation, texture and evidence of the making process into each piece. The series reconnects Angel Cake with the raw, immediate visual language from which she first emerged, while presenting the motif through the refined contemporary approach that has come to define Lhouette’s work today.

That connection to his earlier practice continues beyond the artwork itself. Each edition is presented with artistically treated wooden packaging conceived as part of the piece, referencing the reclaimed pallets, exposed timber and unconventional materials that featured prominently in Lhouette’s formative works.

More than fifteen years after Angel Cake first appeared as a simple spray-painted stencil, these editions bring the motif back to its origins while reflecting just how far both the character and Lhouette’s practice have evolved.
