Born in 1986 in Catania, Francesco La Rosa is an Italian contemporary artist who uses unusual materials and tools in order to create his own works. He is specialized, in fact, in micro carving on large leather artworks made with scalpels and knives.
He is particularly fascinated with photorealistic portraits and drawings realizing strictly black and white, because he loves the beauty of shadows and lights that characterize the picture.
The spark that ignites his inspiration and that led him to create his current works happened while he was creating an incision on leather for a commissioned work, in which casually realizes he can use scalpels and knives to get a different effect than usual. So he combines his greatest passions: art, leather, knives (he collects them since he was a child) and his taste for risks.
From there, he begins a thorough study of this new technique to put it at the service of his art.
His artworks are the result of long hours of meticulous study, after a heavy day's work, locked in his garage with good music in his ears that helps him focusing better and that allows him to enter into his artistic world. He can definitely be called a freak of the details, because the precision and the obsession for perfection are the characteristics of his being. Working on leather with this technique does not allow, surely, making mistakes and erase them.
This fear stimulates him to do even better and gives him the thrill and the adrenaline only he can understand.
