Kerry Darlington’s 'Serafina Pekkala' captures one of literature’s most compelling witches from Philip Pullman’s His Dark Materials. When creating this series, Kerry knew she had to include one of her favourite fictional witches, the elegant and mysterious Serafina Pekkala, queen of the Lake Enara clan. Both ethereal and formidable, she embodies wisdom, courage, and quiet strength. Here, she is shown with her snow goose daemon Kaisa, their bond glimmering amid a world of emerald and gold.
The artist’s palette is rich with symbolism: deep greens suggesting the vast Northern skies and forests, while glimmers of gold leaf dance like Dust; the mysterious particles that shape Pullman’s universe. Through her delicate layering and masterful tone, Darlington evokes a moment of still magic: the witch and her daemon united between the physical and the spiritual, beauty and power.
'Serafina Pekkala' is a luminous celebration of imagination, strength, and serenity, a portrait of one of Kerry’s most beloved literary heroines, and an homage to the stories that continue to inspire her creative world.

Trading for over 30 years, we have made art our passion. Therefore we have developed a strict set of standards for the safe storage and dispatch of our precious works to our collectors. Our meticulous 12-point checklist ensures every work upholds our exacting quality standards when dispatching one of our artworks.
Starting at dispatch from the artist's studio, we've worked together with our community of artists to ensure delivery to the gallery is as meticulous as possible - each work packaged safe transit.
Upon arrival in our Weybridge showroom, each new arrival is examined by the studio & dispatch team. Frames are scrutinised for a perfect finish: glass is polished to perfection with anti-static art cloths. Auxiliary features like the string/wire and certification on the reverse are checked for positioning and correct mounting. Finally, the work itself is inspected to ensure a flawless transition from studio to gallery. Upon purchase, the work is cleaned again and meticulously subjected to our trademark 12-point checking system to ensure a safe secure journey to its ultimate destination.
