Artist: Kerry Darlington
The Sidhe - Original
In 'The Sidhe', Kerry Darlington channels the haunting beauty of Irish mythology and the twilight mystery of John Atkinson Grimshaw’s 'Spirit of the Night'; one of the key inspirations behind this most atmospheric work.
The Sidhe (pronounced Shee) are the ancient fairy folk of Irish folklore: powerful, elusive beings said to dwell within sacred mounds, stone circles and other portals to parallel worlds. Unlike the delicate, romanticised fairies of later tales, the Sidhe are a formidable race; descendants of old gods and guardians of a landscape rich with spiritual energy.
Through Kerry’s masterful technique - layering fine texture, transparent washes and subtle metallics - 'The Sidhe' shimmers with an ethereal light that feels both earthly and otherworldly. The palette glows with moonlit hues and soft shadows, evoking that moment between dusk and dream when unseen realms draw near.
This work speaks to Kerry Darlington’s deep fascination with myth, art history and nature’s enchantment. 'The Sidhe' is not just a painting, it's a threshold; a visual spell that blurs the boundary between our world and theirs.
