Mark Illuminati’s Queen of Punk could only be Siouxsie Sioux. Created to mark 50 years since the emergence of punk in 1976, Queen of Punk celebrates the unmistakable Siouxsie Sioux, frontwoman of Siouxsie and the Banshees and one of the most enduring visual figures to emerge from British punk.
This is also a collection rooted firmly in Mark Illuminati’s own history. Mark was just 12 when punk and London became his playground. He found himself among the bands and personalities of the emerging scene and remembers the movement as something that profoundly shaped him:
“Punk formed me as a young person. Made me naughty, made me question everything and generally made me a pain in the ass.” - Mark Illuminati
Five decades later, Mark returned to those formative years, first through a documentary bringing together figures from The Stranglers, The Adverts, The Clash, The Damned, Adam and the Ants and the Sex Pistols, and now through his 50 Years of Punk artworks.
Siouxsie takes her place as the Queen within a trio inspired by traditional Victorian playing cards. The formal, decorative language of the playing card collides with a woman whose image, music and attitude became synonymous with a far more disruptive moment in British culture.
And Mark’s own description of his subject is characteristically irreverent:
“The Queen of Punk, Siouxsie Sioux, whom for some reason does not like me!”
Originally painted in oil on wood, Queen of Punk has been transformed into a strictly limited edition of 50 prints. Each is individually hand-finished by Mark Illuminati and presented in a choice of black or white frame.
A distinctive piece for collectors of Siouxsie Sioux art, Siouxsie and the Banshees artwork, punk art, British music art and contemporary pop culture, this is as much about the memory of punk as its imagery.

Starting at dispatch from the artist's studio, we've worked together with our community of artists to ensure delivery to the gallery is as meticulous as possible - each work packaged safe transit.
Upon arrival in our Weybridge showroom, each new arrival is examined by the studio & dispatch team. Frames are scrutinised for a perfect finish: glass is polished to perfection with anti-static art cloths. Auxiliary features like the string/wire and certification on the reverse are checked for positioning and correct mounting. Finally, the work itself is inspected to ensure a flawless transition from studio to gallery. Upon purchase, the work is cleaned again and meticulously subjected to our trademark 12-point checking system to ensure a safe secure journey to its ultimate destination.
