Artist: Louise Dear
Love Drunk is a powerful self-portrait and talisman by Louise Dear and an original work over five years in the making. First begun in her Brighton studio, the painting evolved through new love, a move to France, and years on her own wall before its final transformation.
The muse, shared with her iconic character Yum Yum, wears a pearl necklace, inspired by Louise’s mother’s advice that pearls and white lift the face and restore confidence. In honour of this wisdom, daisies always appear in her muses, here specifically Michaelmas-daisies that bloom around her September birthday. Against the bold black background, their bright petals embody yin and yang, balancing light and dark.
Southern French blooms burst in vibrant teals and juicy blackcurrant tones, concealing a kingfisher, a fleeting flash of life as seen in the artist’s village of Périgueux. Infused with 24-carat gold and Louise’s own spirit, Love Drunk is a radiant meditation on passion, memory, and the enduring intoxication of love.
