Beach Ready - Edition

Edition Type

Chris Chapman’s 'Beach Ready' is a hand-embellished limited edition canvas, bringing his distinctive humour to the sun-drenched world of Claude Monet and French Impressionism.

Taking inspiration from Monet’s celebrated paintings of the Normandy coast at Étretat, Chapman creates an artwork within an artwork, complete with sweeping blue-green water, a luminous beach and the monumental cliffs that became one of Monet’s recurring subjects. But this is Chris Chapman, so naturally there’s a twist.

Scooting gleefully past the masterpiece are two frogs, packed up and ready for a day at the beach, with a basket of baguettes in tow. Their wonderfully absurd French seaside adventure brings Chapman's characteristic sense of humour to the composition, while the artwork behind them takes the art-world joke one step further, appearing under the brilliantly mischievous guise of “Fraud Monet.”

The contrast between Impressionist beauty and Chapman's playful amphibious travellers gives 'Beach Ready' its irresistible charm. It is both an affectionate nod to one of history’s most celebrated artists and a characteristically witty take on the way we encounter famous works of art.

Produced as a Boutique Edition Giclée Print, hand embellished on canvas, 'Beach Ready' is limited to just 35 editions worldwide, giving collectors the opportunity to own one of Chapman's playful art-historical compositions in an exceptionally small edition.

For collectors of Chris Chapman art, contemporary British art, humorous figurative artwork and paintings inspired by Impressionism and Claude Monet, 'Beach Ready' combines fine-art references, storytelling and Chapman's unmistakable sense of fun.
