Women in Art

Live from the Studio

With a new wave of original art, we've been privileged to visit the studios of artists and see the magnificent works in progress. It's always exhilarating to see the magic happen in-situ and gain an insight into the mediums and methods the artists employ - always in surprising ways.

In this article we discover the studios of some of our most dynamic female artists - blazing new trails in contemporary art.

Adding a lush, richly atmospheric ambience to any room: we're delighted to have exclusive artist Becky Smith with collections such as 'Constellations' and 'New Perspectives' bringing a range of materials and ideas. With echoes of the lucid, vivid jungle works of Henri Rousseau and Brett-Livingstone Strong: Becky Smith's works features an exotic colour palette, with metal leaf and surprising, non-standard canvas shapes.

A Patina of Riches from Harriet Hoult

With an astonishing use of impasto: plus re-appropriation of non-standard media such as rope, netting and novel-pages.... Harriet Hoult is an exciting voice in abstract art. Her float-mounted paper originals add an unexpected, utterly singular statement to any space. We're delighted to welcome her to our community of commissioned interior artists.

Harriet'sSouth London studio is a converted Victorian warehouse: itself a rich collage of textures and surfaces. It's an atmosphere that is not unlike Harriet's work itself - exciting fusions of ever-surprising texture, colour and medium - the sheer effort of applying, layering and weathering powerfully apparent in the tactile impasto.

A strong continuity with her Cornish background is the netting embedded in many of her originals. Originally found washed up on the beaches of the West Country it's a similarly storied artifact, which suits the multilayered tone of the works magnificently.

Amlee's Eye for Beauty

An artist inspired by her background in fashion as well as interior design: employing her degree in Master 2 in Applied Arts and Plastic Arts with renowned Interior-decor and fashion agencies in Paris. It was only natural; that after a three-year residency in the UK (where she met us and began our highly fruitful collaboration), Amylee has set up a new studio in France: embarking on a series of 'floral abstracts'.

Amylee's new direction employs her design and textile background as well as her influences of 1970s patterns, psychedelia - and of course, flowers. A colour purist (utilising unmixed colours), Amylee has also evolved her technique to include advanced patina, metal leafing and weathering effects.

Kerry Darlington: The Legend Continues!

Kerry Darlington has embarked on a major new show last year with the last in her Alice in Wonderland series and our first virtual show, The Rose Garden. Greeting 2020 on a colossal scale with her rapturously received 'One Thousand Paper Cranes', incorporating 3D elements to create an immersive piece of artwork. Continuously adding to her impressive body of work drawing inspiration from classic writers, fairy-tale and modern fantasies.
