A skull in full bloom, 'Growth' transforms one of Becky Smith’s most recognisable motifs into an intricate celebration of life, colour and transformation.
Flowers construct the form of the skull itself, intertwined with butterflies, jewel-bright birds, strawberries and tiny botanical details. Against the black ground, intense blues, oranges, pinks and violets seem almost illuminated. 'Growth' turns the traditional symbolism of the skull towards something optimistic, an image of life flourishing and continually evolving.
The inspiration came from a pair of private commissions Becky created for a collector in New York. Both were floral skulls, designed as inversions of one another: one against a black background and the other against gold. Becky borrowed from the visual language and relationship between those two paintings to create 'Growth', alongside its sibling work, 'Grace'.
Produced as a limited edition Giclée print on Hahnemühle fine art paper, this Mini print captures the remarkable colour and intricate detail of the original composition. Each is then hand embellished with specialised UV glow-in-the-dark paint, bringing an additional element of Becky’s artistry to the edition and allowing selected details to transform as the light changes.

Our meticulous 12-point checklist ensures every work upholds our exacting quality standards when dispatching one of our artworks.
Starting at dispatch from the artist's studio, we've worked together with our community of artists to ensure delivery to the gallery is as meticulous as possible - each work packaged safe transit.
Upon arrival in our Weybridge showroom, each new arrival is examined by the studio & dispatch team. Frames are scrutinised for a perfect finish: glass is polished to perfection with anti-static art cloths. Auxiliary features like the string/wire and certification on the reverse are checked for positioning and correct mounting. Finally, the work itself is inspected to ensure a flawless transition from studio to gallery. Upon purchase, the work is cleaned again and meticulously subjected to our trademark 12-point checking system to ensure a safe secure journey to its ultimate destination.
