Artist: Kerry Darlington
Before he became The Wizard of Oz, he was Oscar Diggs, a stage magician from Omaha, Nebraska, known for sleight of hand and smoke-filled spectacles. One fateful day, while performing at a county fair, a hot air balloon mishap swept him high above the clouds, and into legend.
In 'So Long, Omaha', Kerry Darlington captures that transformative moment when illusion becomes destiny. Beneath a vast, moonlit sky, Oscar’s balloon drifts over gothic rooftops reminiscent of her Godric’s Hollow series, a visual farewell to his old world and a foreshadowing of the magical realm to come. It’s a scene where the ordinary meets the extraordinary, and belief takes flight.
This unique limited edition is hand-finished with a high-gloss resin surface and raised 3D detailing, creating an artwork that is as tactile as it is luminous. Metallic accents glimmer across the airships and rooftops, giving the impression of moonlight on mist. With its steampunk undertones and cinematic scale, 'So Long, Omaha' bridges Kerry Darlington’s early visual language with the enchanting mythology of Wicked and The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
A story of courage, deception, and reinvention, this is where the legend begins
