The colour harmony in this painting has been inspired, like so many of Bauer's works, by nature. During the summer holidays with his family in the South of France, Scott spent most evenings looking at some stunning sunsets over the Atlantic. The complexity and nuances of these chromatic events inspired the many colours that make up this work. When you look at a blazing sunset over the ocean there are mind-boggling variations of colour and tone underpinning the overall palette; Biarritz is an attempt to capture these colours and delineate them line by line in a harmonic pattern.
