Quite simply one of the most exciting artists working today: Chris DeRubeis has flew in from his native USA for a UK tour. The showcase appearance was here in Weybridge where he made a special appearance at the Wyecliffe Gallery, presenting his collection of astonishing “Abstract Sensualism” artworks.
DeRubeis was every bit the rockstar artist, the epitome of big-hearted laid-back charm and well... There's no other way to put it really.... Cool! He spent four hours chatting to collectors and signing purchased works with additional sketches and witticisms. A huge thanks to all our guests who were part of the party!
A student of the acclaimed Pasadena Art Centre: his professors tried to convince him to choose a "more commercial style" of art but DeRubeis was never satisfied painting... Instead, scouring the local mechanics, scrap metal yards and demolition traders; he treated metal with fire, acid, chemicals and paint to produce unique, beautiful pieces of art. A truly distinctive vision was born!
A thoughtful and quietly spoken artist, Scott Bauer’s polite manner is the perfect reflection of a series of accomplished original acrylic works with pristine painted stripes as their signature structure. A genre named by the artist as linear formalism, the term conjures thoughts of complex algebraic formulas, a mindset far away from the freedom of creative imagination. Using fragments of memory along with his perception of the world, the artist distills light and colour into stunningly rendered stripes. Waved, faded and pure, the outcome are pieces both calmly meditative and excitingly vivid. Wyecliffe Galleries are privileged to share an insight in to the mind of this emerging artist.
Nature-inspired artist Becky Smith and abstract-creator, Kate Taylor both share an insight into their creative process as well as starting out or developing your own style inn exclusive interviews by Wyecliffe Galleries.
