Vichit Nongnual - Monumenta

Bangkok based artist Vichit Nongnual already has a substantial worldwide following for his sculptures - Indeed he runs his own studio, Eco-Clay, with its own ceramic oven.
Constantly exploring new ideas, he has embarked on a major new adventure – painting. Bringing the same meticulous technique and visceral, earthy mediums to his portraiture: the stark, serene, powerfully dignified paintings combine abstract and bricolage inflections with a sculptural solidarity and presence, inspired by his first love... Clay.

An award-winning artist, Vichit uses the human face as a canvas to interpret the inner workings of the mind. Seeking to expose what may be on the mind of his subject, their appearances are interrupted by symbols of meaning; clouds, text and smoke are cast across the facial landscapes. In monumental scale, the originals works are powerful and impressive. Limited editions on glass bring a contemporary presentation and interpretation to the images. Bringing a global perspective to this traditional genre, these remarkable and accomplished portraits are perfect for modern collections.

Using fragments of memory along with his perception of the world, the artist distills light and colour into stunningly rendered stripes. Waved, faded and pure, the outcome are pieces both calmly meditative and excitingly vivid. Wyecliffe Galleries are privileged to share an insight in to the mind of this emerging artist.
