World War is part of a larger story, previously Hulk has been banished to Sakaar by the Illuminati of Earth. The people of Sakaar, have made a shrine for Hulk from the remains of his ship, when is visits the shrine he is angered by previous memories on banishment. His return to the ship sets off an alarmcausing it to self destruct, killing all life on the planet bar Hulk.
Along with a few allies Hulk makes his way back to Earth to seek revenge for those who destroyed his paradise.
We join the story with this comic with Iron Man hoping to defeat Hulk by injecting him with nanobots but this doesn’t take effect. Hulk takes on the Fantastic Four, defeats them then starts on Dr Strange.
Hulk tells everyone he has come back for ‘justice not murder’. He plans to destroy New York with no one in it and defeats the Illuminati in defeat.
The sentry finally make an appearance and after a long battle, both Hulk and Reynolds revert back to their human forms. Hulk is angered again. He asks the heroes to stop him before he breaks the world. Iron Man activates a series of satellite anti-gamma lasers which fire and ends Hulks prolonged rampage.
As Banner is locked inside the Earth’s crust in a coma like state, Skaar, son of Hulk rises from the destruction.
