YOUNG ODETTEYoung Odette is a medium, giclee & resin on board with each piece carrying a unique, 2D appearance. Marginally different to the Collections we’ve become so accustomed to with Kerry Darlington, Young Odette seeks to be as unique and minimalistic with its 3D elements as possible.
A CLASSIC STORYLike most of Darlington’s artworks, the inspiration behind Young Odette has been propelled by the fantasy tale ‘The Swan Princess’ - A classic story and household name. As the storyline goes, a beautiful princess falls in love with a prince from another land, but an exiled magician who wants her for himself conjures up a spell to transform her into a swan, the swan in this piece has started to inundate the Young Odette, although she seems composed about the inevitable transformation.
THE RESIN PROCESSSubsequent layers of resin are painted upon, building up and intensifying the background colours, or painting over pastels to give a gentle translucent colour. Upon the top layer of resin, Kerry adds the finer details of the piece, adds small white highlights and the finished image is archival-varnished.
A TRUE DARLINGTONDarlington is recognised for her distinct approach to storytelling which combines the pure joy of fantasy along with the finesse of personal creativity. That is the charm of Darlington’s paintings – they bring out the storyteller in us. Her works cross generations mirroring the power of iconic fables by Roald Dahl or J.M Barrie which are as relevant today as when the ink was still freshly wet on the page. Bringing families together, Darlington’s work hangs in homes from those aged from 7 months to 70 years and more.
Goldilocks and The Three Bears is Kerry Darlington's most recent composition from her acclaimed, Folklore Collection, up to one year in the making, this piece is one of her most studious pieces to date.
Tracing the lineage of Kerry Darlington’s enthralling portraits unveils a reverie to the renowned painters of the past and a committed vision to be a part of the story.
