Beth Nicholas: Ethereal Abstractions

Wyecliffe Galleries is pleased to present the seductive and ethereal abstractions of Beth Nicholas. With dedicated learning in textile design, her meticulous understanding of tonal combinations has found beautiful form in delicate fine art ink works.

Beth Nicholas and Her Technique

Working for days on a single painting, the artist spends hours slowly manipulating the fluid liquid colour to arrive at an accomplished original work; the motion suspended in time, in a similar action as capturing a solar eclipse in a single photographed frame.  Intangible and evocative, Nicholas is heavily influenced by the Japanese philosophy of Wabi-Sabi. The ethos lies in the acceptance of both transience and imperfection. Dreamy in quality, her works visually communicate a feeling of understated elegance which can enhance the environment in which they hang.

Fusing tonal blue pigment from midnight skies to crystal waters and overlaid with liquid gold leaf, Nicholas has elegantly captured a design zeitgeist founded on the fusing of matte and metallic to affect a heady layered contrast.  Explorations have flourished in burnt orange bronze laced with chrome silver and deep grey, adding a warmer offering to her palette. Working on thick abundant paper either left raw and authentic, or mounted onto contemporary diabond the scale of piece ranges from compact to vast 10 feet long masterpieces.

Beth Nicholas' Art at the Decorex Interior Design Show

Displayed with Wyecliffe Galleries at Decorex International in the glorious early Autumn of Syon Park, Beth Nicholas’ works were displayed alongside paintings from renowned artist Robin Eckardt and the cool urban wall sculptures of rising star Lhouette.  Demonstrating versatility of presentation and ability to harmonize with different genres, her works respond with shimmering attraction. Recent commissions include for the Langham Hotel, London as well as forthcoming work for Christian Louboutin.

Ideal for both modern and classical interiors, her work has a mesmeric quality assured to augment designers vision and collector’s portfolio.
