I painted ‘Becoming Nobody’ and ‘Astral Storylines’ whilst listening to Ram Dass, (an American spiritual teacher, psychologist, and author); he talk about these subjects and they conjure up beautiful images for me.
I used a mixture of transparent layers of paint and varnish on the figure, with thick opaque paint on the surroundings which gives the skin a luminous effect.
- Kerry Darlington
Radiating mystery, the extraordinary work Becoming Nobody develops Darlington’s fascination with elf-like muses and ancient folklore. With hints of the woodland, the artist has lavished time on the intricate features that form this heart shaped face; soft brushstrokes reveal her eyelashes and flowing hair. Ghosts of dandelions and bumblebees gently dance on the wind, whilst butterflies and ladybirds are etched into the skin across her decoupage, united in the rhythm of her heartbeat. A bewitching duo, Becoming Nobody is the companion work to Astral Storylines which is another extraordinary portrait.
Kerry Darlington presents her first ever unique editions with a soft matte varnish, in recognition of the finish that many of her original paintings feature. A shift in aesthetic, the soft sheen surface of Becoming Nobody and Astral Storylines offers a more subtle presentation. True to her ambition for editions to offer as close a viewing experience to an original painting as possible, each work has been additionally furnished with silver leaf and ink, highlighting key areas of each composition.
