"...thought can organise the world so well that you are no longer able to see it...A thought is a screen, not a mirror; that is why you live in a thought envelope, untouched by Reality."
- Anthony de Mello
Directly inspired by beloved work Ophelia, Darlington offers her mesmerising new unique edition Internal Reflection. Returning to the lakes originally described in paint by John Everett Millais, collectors may recognise the distinctive swirls of the emerald water from her first pre-Raphaelite work released in 2012. A true storyteller, the artist weaves connections between her own compositions and historical paintings, resulting in works rich in heritage and meaning. Her brunette muse stands peacefully with rose petals cascading from above; a portrait based upon her daughter Elle, Darlington renders the beauty of her child in breathtaking detail.
Transformed into her innovative form of unique edition, Internal Reflection is sealed in high gloss resin with a hand-crafted three-dimensional surface. Standing proud of the piece, an array of the rose petals have been carefully formed as glass like elements, balanced above the painting to cast glimmering shadows onto the piece when displayed under light.
"I have long been fascinated with the subject of inner reflection, or introspection. In that we are all a collection of beliefs and thoughts we have gathered through our life experiences, often without ever questioning their truth. Introspective time alone leads to the dismantling of these belief systems and in turn to greater peace and awareness. This painting represents a reflective ‘moment’ - which explains the subjects' pose for the piece. The landscape and water reflect the energetic stillness of the mind."
