With an award-winning background in bespoke furniture design, it is little surprise that designer-turned artist Tristan Hibberd is re-defining the boundaries of fine art utilizing his background in form and function. Illusionary in nature, the abstracted structures created by this emerging artist are entirely compelling. Uniquely blending the concept of Japanese origami with a contemporary vision, his work exudes a sculptural quality accomplished with the ingenious use of paper and colour. Using a hands-on-approach, Hibberd creates hand folded lotuses which make up each of his original works. Pushing the materials to their limits, the artist crafts delicate three-dimensional paintings which bring new life to this ancient tradition. Inspired by organic matter and natural phenomenon, the artist has recently begun crafting symbols and typography to introduce to his rapidly progressing portfolio. Hibberd joins Wyecliffe Galleries offering innovation in material and creative thought, and it is with great excitement that we watch his work develop.
