Alice And A Long Tale - Original

Alice and a Long Tale - Kerry Darlington

In Wonderland, the most extraordinary stories rarely follow a straight path. In Alice and a Long Tale, Kerry Darlington invites us into a gloriously colourful gathering inspired by Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, where familiar faces mingle with fantastical creatures and every corner promises another curious discovery.

At the centre of this enchanting composition sits Alice, her familiar blue dress and white pinafore surrounded by an extraordinary assembly of feathered, furry and wonderfully peculiar companions. Above her, the mischievous Cheshire Cat reclines amongst the branches, wearing his unmistakable grin, while the magnificent Dodo displays a dazzling plumage of turquoise, violet and emerald green. Nearby, a great owl watches over the gathering, its solemn expression providing a delightful contrast to the exuberant characters assembled beneath it.

Amongst the flowers and fantastical foliage, rabbits, butterflies, brightly coloured birds and woodland creatures inhabit a world where imagination appears to have entirely overtaken reality. There is something wonderfully theatrical about the scene, as though Alice has stumbled upon a gathering where everyone has a story to tell, and nobody is particularly concerned about making sense.

The Dodo provides a particularly delightful connection to Carroll's original story. Famously responsible for the wonderfully nonsensical Caucus-race, in which everyone is declared a winner, he embodies the playful absurdity that has made Wonderland so irresistible to generations of readers.

As an original hand-painted work of art, Alice and a Long Tale showcases Kerry's extraordinary imagination and intricate craftsmanship. From the delicate markings of each creature to the elaborate patterns of the trees, flowers and fantastical landscape, every detail has been lovingly considered. The composition is alive with vibrant colour, intricate brushwork and a remarkable abundance of hidden discoveries, rewarding those who return to explore it time and again.

A one-of-a-kind original painting, Alice and a Long Tale is a celebration of curiosity, individuality and the wonderful friendships we find in the most unexpected places. After all, in Wonderland, the longest tales are often the ones most worth telling.
